Academe of the Oaks is located at 146-148
New Street in Decatur, Georgia. Just three blocks east of Agnes
Scott College and one block west of the Avondale Marta Station,
the private high school campus currently consists of two renovated buildings
at the end of New Street.
The 146 building contains classrooms, a library, a faculty/administrative
office, a lounge/kitchen area and a state-of-the-art computer lab
for use by students. The 148 building, known as the Loft, contains
studio space as well as a large multi-purpose room that is used
for music, movement, art shows, festivals, dances, recitals and
lectures.
Learning beyond the classroom
Classrooms are not limited to indoor space. A covered workshop,
ideal for a variety of practical and fine arts classes, including
woodworking, clay, and basketry, is located on a raised pavilion
that also accommodates basketball, volleyball, and other outdoor
activities. A small Tuscan garden and a large wooded green space
surround the current campus.
Community
leadership
The school is located in the Livable Centers Initiative area of
Decatur, Georgia, which is scheduled to progress from light commercial to
Live/Work loft development in the coming years. Academe of the Oaks
is on the leading edge of this transformation, keeping the spirit
of community alive as the school continues its development into
a full-scale high school providing the benefits of a Waldorf education.
