At Academe of the Oaks, the majority of classes are taught in block format. Students begin each day with the main lesson, essentially a 90-minute intensive academic seminar in which subjects such as natural sciences, mathematics, earth sciences, history and literature are explored in depth for a three- to four-week period. The main lesson includes lecture and lesson, individualized research and writing, discussion and artistic projects. The main lesson is distinguished by the student’s creation of a book, which is a record of all their work for the course, and by the fact that students and instructors generally use primary source material rather than textbooks.

After the main lesson is over, the rest of the day involves a range of continuing subjects that include math, foreign language, English skills, social studies, choir, orchestra or band, practical and fine arts, and physical education.

The curriculum chart details which main lesson topics one can expect to find throughout the four years of high school. The chart also outlines continuing subjects in diverse disciplines. The curriculum goes deeply into the sciences, the humanities, and the arts, while providing a firm foundation in community service and the practical activities of daily living
