Dr. Kwasi H. Barnes was born and raised on the Caribbean island of Saint Croix, which is part of the United States Virgin Islands. Dr. Barnes spent his childhood exploring the lush green land, rocky shorelines, and surrounding emerald sea of his island home learning about the plants and animals of the
various habits. This love and curiosity about the natural environment led to his study of science.

Dr. Barnes has undergraduate degrees in marine biology and mathematics from the University of the Virgin Islands and a doctorate in marine science from the University of South Florida. Dr. Barnes loves teaching and learning through hands-on exploration and research and has taught science and math from the elementary school level through college as an environmental educator, public high school teacher, assistant professor, and private tutor.

Dr. Barnes loves fishing, hiking, exploring, and learning about the plants and animals in local, state, and national parks of Georgia and throughout the USA with his wife and family.
