Dr. Ricardo Nogueira

Science

Ricardo Nogueira was born in south Brazil and holds a BS degree in meteorology and M.S., and Ph.D. in Geography. He has taught weather and climate for many years in a variety of formats ranging from small to ultra-large classes. For five years Dr. Nogueira worked at The Weather Channel Latin America as a weather anchor, providing weather forecasting for Brazil. His passion to be a better educator has led him to develop an interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning in weather and climate courses.

Over the past 9 years, he has been working as a senior lecturer at Georgia State University where he taught several undergraduate-level courses such as Introduction to Weather and Climate (GEOG 1112) and Introduction to Landforms (GEOG 1113). These courses are some of the most popular science courses at GSU and have grown tremendously over the years. As of this year, he has taught more than 8,000 students on these subjects. In 2019 he received the Instructional Innovation Award by Georgia State University’s 2018-19 Faculty Awards Committee. He lives is Doraville with his wife Tracy and two dachshunds, Elkie and Penny. His hobbies includes dancing the Argentinian Tango and Brazilian food, where BBQ it his specialty.

Dr. Nogueira is teaching Meteorology at Academe of the Oaks.
